Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)

A doctor is reviewing a patient's chart. The patient awaits patiently.

The Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) program at Westbrook Health Services offers a comprehensive approach to treating substance use disorders, specifically focusing on opioid use disorder and alcohol use disorder. Our MAT program combines the use of medications, counseling, and behavioral therapies to provide a holistic treatment plan tailored to each individual's needs. The primary goals of the MAT program are to reduce withdrawal symptoms, curb cravings, and lower the likelihood of relapse, all while promoting long-term recovery and overall well-being. In addition to these core services, our MAT program includes Care Coordination services to ensure all aspects of an individual’s health and recovery are managed effectively. We also offer Peer Recovery Support services, providing individuals with the opportunity to connect with others who have successfully navigated their own recovery journeys. Through this multifaceted approach, we aim to support individuals in achieving lasting recovery and improving their quality of life.

Our MAT program currently offers 4 different medications for treatment:

Vivitrol - Vivitrol is a medication that comes in the form of an intramuscular injection that is given every 28 days. It's used to help people who are struggling with addiction to alcohol or opioid drugs. It works by blocking the effects of these substances in the body, which can help reduce cravings and prevent relapse.

Suboxone - Suboxone is a sublingual medication used to treat addiction to opioid addiction. Suboxone contains two active ingredients: buprenorphine and naloxone. Buprenorphine helps reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms, while naloxone helps prevent misuse of the medication.

Sublocade - Sublocade is a medication used to treat addiction to opioid addiction. It's a long-acting form of buprenorphine, which is an opioid medication that helps reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms. Unlike other forms of buprenorphine that need to be taken daily, Sublocade is given as a monthly injection by a healthcare provider. This helps provide a steady level of medication in the body, which can make treatment more convenient for some people.

Brixadi - Brixadi is a medication used to treat addiction to opioid addiction. It contains the active ingredient buprenorphine, which helps reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms associated with opioid dependence. Brixadi comes in the form of a weekly or monthly injection given by a healthcare provider. This long-acting formulation helps provide a steady level of medication in the body, which can make treatment more convenient for some people compared to daily medications.
